Rover 1973 P6B 4400

This vehicle was fitted with a performance version of the Leyland P76 engine many years ago. The original type automatic transmission was retained, but beefed up with Ford internals, and handles the power quite well. I was given a drive in it at the halfway run in Wagga NSW between the Rover Owner Club of  NSW Inc. and the Rover Car Club of Australia Inc. Vic. The car was sold years later, and was owned by a customer of ours for several years. The owner had to sell, as his partner was expecting, and my brother Mark bought it. He drove it to the Adelaide Rover festival and owned it for about a year, then had to sell it, as his wife was expecting, because the baby capsule did not fit in a P6! I bought the car, and owned it for about a year, and had to sell it because my wife was expecting! The chap I sold it to enjoyed owning the car, but wanted something more original, and we had at that time a genuine one owner 1976 P6B in beautiful condition, so we swapped!

The car's performance is quite dazzling, but around town it is a very easy car to drive, you only become aware of the cars potential when you put the pedal down, and you are firmly pushed into the seat and the car is launched in the direction you are pointing, and an urgent low growl comes out from under the bonnet! It has had Piranha Electronic Injection fitted, so tuning is replace the plus and filter, adjust the Holley and it is done. The power steering is very direct and makes parking effortless. The handling is up to the task, as well as braking, having fitted new callipers to the front and rear. Rover Vanden Plas mag wheels with Vittesse caps have been fitted and new 225 60 tyres. The black vinyl roof was fitted a couple of years ago, as well as the boot spare wheel carrier made to take the new wheels. Front and rear mudflaps have been fitted, and a spoiler fitted to the front for looks and also to tidy-up the high speed handling. Even without the motor under the bonnet, it is a nice car, no clunks, bumps or other annoying noises to say it is an old car. Sold in 2004.
